Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Had everything in place. Used a straight edge to mark where it would be flush with the frame rail. Then cut out 7/8 in out and welded together. It hard to do.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Thanks. I think I may have seen that in another thread. If I ever do something different with my 62, I think I would rather do this then add the blocks under the mount on top of the frame.

I didn’t like the look so I just modified it.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Attachment 2403979Engine almost complete. Just did the first start and fired right off with 60lbs of oil pressure. Still have a few things to button up like power steering lines and a small exhaust leak. I have the exhaust dumped right now u til I come up way to get it to the rear. I’m open to suggestions.

Nice! that's always a good feeling opening up those box's. I'm personally not into the big wheel look but can still appreciate the truck, can't wait to see it sitting on it's rubber.

I can’t either! I think the rear is going to be tight. I had 15x8 all around and wanted to change the look a little bit

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Today I put the bed on to test the clearance on the wheels. It’s a little tight but it fits. I still think I need to roll the lip a little to get the extra 3/8 clearance.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

How wide are those wheels?

I'm tucking a healthy amount of 17" rim, but they are only 7.5" wide. There sure isn't much room in the step side fenders.

20x9 with 5in backspace. 1in on the inside and 3/4 on outside lip.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Yesterday I went and had the tires installed. The rears fit but touched on the outside lip. I had to cut 1/4 off the fender lip to get the look I was going for. Not they have plenty of room. I did a test drive and this is a totally different truck!

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Looks good. I need to get one of those manual fender lip rollers sometime for stuff like that, they seem super useful but just don't need it very often.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

I have a fender roller, but usually have better luck with a baseball bat or a piece of pipe.

You would need to be careful of the rods that help the fender keep its shape; the fender won't roll easily there. Because of the thickness of the metal, cutting is probably easiest.

Looks nice! (though... I want lower...(grin))

I tried rolling it but did more pushing than bending. So I made a line where it was going to be folded and cut it out. Came out much better. My last wheels were 15x8 with 4in back space and it had about a playing card between the wheel and fender. I needed to do it then but never came around to doing it. The truck drives so much better with everything I did to it.

Re: 1962 chevy c10 update.

Took my truck on a long drive yesterday to the alignment shop. It had plenty of passing power and the temp ran between 160-180. I decided that the exhaust is too loud for me. So I will be hunting for another set of muffles to quiet it down.
