68 Windshield install with Stainless Trim in TX

Looking to have a new windshield put in my son's 68 for Christmas. He's got the stainless trim on his truck. I ordered a Precision Gasket from GMC Pauls...curious about a few things.

1. Anyone have any suggestions for an installer neat Denison, TX.
2. Should I be trying to source my own glass?
3. His truck is not restored...just a good old fashioned 56 year old truck. Should we be trying to remove the glass ourselves and clean up trim, check for rust, re-paint jambs. This is all new to me and it seems like with the age of this truck odds of everything being perfect and not needing any attention is slim and none.

Jose and his shop did some work on my 1969 truck, including replacing the front inner roof near the windshield and replacing the windshield. I bought the Precision seal from GMC Pauls and the windshield installer provided the glass. Jose's shop does any needed body work and they call a mobile glass guy to do the glass. It was reasonable in price in about 2016.

If the SS trim is original it will install much easier. If the trim is aftermarket, I would think hard about eliminating it. Eliminating will require different gasket but you will likely have better luck finding an installer as many will run away from a trim set. Back window is pretty easy. Front is a bugger even for the most experienced.
Pull the current window yourself and inspect the channel. If you need to do any rust repair, you can do so without being pressured to meet a date for install.

That's exactly the route I was thinking would be best. Thanks for the advise PbFut. Oringial Stainless Trim...so let's hope for the best.

Recently had quite the dilemma with this. I'll edit this to include the thread about it but...

My late model SS trim and Precision gasket could NOT be installed at all after multiple attempts over several days. Trim was the problem as it has a very short extension that reaches down into the gasket.

The eventual solution was: I purchased early model trim from LMC, the installers showed up...again...and installed it the first try in less than an hour.

Make sure your trim is the early version ( has a long extension that reaches down into the gasket ) and you have the corresponding early gasket.

Good point on the 2 style trims. I will note my experience was with the later style.

yeah the early style is much easier to do for sure. We did a 71 Cheyenne right before my 68 and that windshield was a pain and it took a 2nd seal as we ruined the first one. My 68 was a much easier time to do. Pulling the rear one in is a piece of cake

To echo what others have said, my window guy would have preferred the early style trim which seats deeper into the molding, but he still was able to accomplish both my windows in a couple of hours using LMC trim and Precision gaskets. Had I known, one was easier than the other I would have for sure bought the earlier style.

So, how deep does each style extend? The 'hook' that I'm looking at is about 0.265" off the back side of the chromed flat.
