Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

I spent a few days hunting S Illinois over the last couple of weeks
Sometimes life gets busy and the simple things escape you. I like the old days and one room churches are all but gone. This one was Est. 1888 per the sign. After I got home and was eyeing it closer, it has a hornet nest in the eve. I couldve been killed! Not really, but on down the road was a place called Burden Falls. Kinda dry right now but very quiet. It was a nice place to stop and heat up a bowl of chili.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

^ Reminds me of a trip I took a few years back driving through Colorado.
I’m pretty sure I posted it on the forum here. I really liked the view.

Those pics remind me of a song by Shenandoah "Church on Cumberland Road" I think it was.

Re: Random Photos ‘You took’

It puts me in mind of the same thing. Once on a eastern ky road trip to go look at a 69 camaro, there was a similar church a ways off the highway. Janice wanted me to stop and get a photo of it. I did. Bought the car and years later, we were on the same highway. The church was still there, but they had built on to the back of it and ruined the look. I may be able to post that one, but i will have to dig.

Saw this building today in Louisville. Old Studebaker dealer, I would have to think.

That is cool.
This reminds me of Stories I have Heard in my younger years.

A neighbor of mine that was born in the year 1900 worked in a Rock/Stone Quarry.

He told stories of those slabs of different types and how they Hand Chiseled them in shape.

He showed me the way to use the Chisels on some Limestone that was dug out of his garden after plowing in the spring/fall getting ready for the next seasons.

He would plow the garden deep for drainage purposes.

Looks to be from the 30s based on the font . Could have been a factory warehouse . They had quite a few around the country . The last one to close was in PA it closed in the late 70s we bought a crapload of parts . The warehouse in South Bend was open till the late 80s most have been torn down for urban renewal .
