Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Back in early Oct, I bought an old Jeep cj5 to tinker with. It had been off the road for several years, so I have been straightening out PO issues and used it for running back and forth to the farm (10 mile round trip) during deer season. Today, I took it on a 40 mile round trip ride. It is working out good. So much like tinkering with these old Chevies, just not the exact same.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I've often wondered if I'd like owning a cj5. A friend had one in the mid 70s (seems like it had an eagle on the hood maybe) with the v8 that I liked real well. Never liked em enough to go look for one though.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Started to backfill today . I put 2 inches of sand under and 4-5 over the pipe to protect it from any damage from the stones in the backfill . I picked out the really huge ones but there are plenty of medium to small ones.

Spent 3 hours block sanding at a body shop today. More 37 Dodge PU work.
But you need a Jeep like my LS swapped Wrangler. Best swap ever. |

Early this year I had an under ground water leak develop. My home was built in the 70s so it had black plastic pipe supply line. Plumber said you will be repairing it again 'fore long. About 4 months went by and another leak sprang up. Repaired again. The 3rd time was enough. I had him replace the whole length from meter to house. Still plastic but 50 years newer. I didn't need that repair bill but he had the mini x that made it so much easier and faster.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
I like all jeeps, from military on up to current models. My favorites were cj5s from the years 72-early 80s when they ditched them for the longer cj7 market. The shorter wheelbase made for a pretty much off road beast ,and I couldnt pay for one mowing yards for 2 bucks apiece. Still my favorite, v8 powered ones of course.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
.
Yesterday I found myself tinkering with an A/C unit. Trying to remove the fan assembly for replacement. I found the bundle of wires needing disconnected and went to doing so. My buddy standing there with me warned that I should kill the power. My thinking was that since this unit will not be commanded ON while I'm here now, it shouldn't be a problem but went ahead to try and pull the breaker in the box hanging on the wall next to the unit. After a struggle to get it open I said F'k it and went to unbundling those wires. My buddy says "Famous last words." Leaned down into the machine propping myself up over it with both forearms on the outer metal casing. Then started carefully cutting the tape with my blade. Then it happened. I had felt this sensation on a few other occasions...electric fences and some vague memory as a child after someone told me to sick my finger into the light socket...but THIS. This was far more powerful and scary. I completed a circuit from my right hand to my right forearm across my body to my left forearm. Oh man. I suffered no known injuries thankfully. However this will never be forgotten by my small circle of friends and they will let me know how stupid it was over and over again. -Kevin

Actually, yes, it will be a second place, for a while. My mom is elderly and lives near me. I won't abandon her. She followed us to ID. She's kill me if I left her here . Seriously, at some point in time, we probably will move there.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Finished up the backfill. Unfortunately the brass pipe coming out the cistern from the pump is leaking so I need to fix that tomorrow.
I also had to buy a new bit didn’t have an 1 1/2 masonry bit . So $125 dollars later

1946 CJ2A first year of the civilian Jeep. I bought this from the original owners daughter after his passing, it was used on a local walnut ranch.

Eventually we were forced to at least look at the problem and stop at "freon" I can understand protecting your craft, but it tied our hands. So... I trained myself in troubleshooting hvac. I still don't mess with freon, even at home and there are sometimes you have to work hot, but be careful. A jolt acrosd your chest can interfere with heart rythym. You are fortunate.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Bought a super clean bed and gate for my Dodge today . Very hard to find an 8 footer this one appears to have had a slid in camper in it as it has a power plug for 110v in the bed . Inside of the bed is as nice as the outside Local guy brings beds in from the south and it took him a while to get me one . Also bought a mint complete step bumper .

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...
Baked cookies all day with my daughter into the night from scratch. I haven't used a mixer in 50 years, and can't say I love the labor. But my daughter takes after her Nana, keeping the tradition. Her gifts Christmas traditional with a labor intense 72+ candy cane; 150 chocolate crisps, until we tired of making them, and lost count of snowballs..............................................My gift just 75 peanut butter and 72 chocolate chip. Altogether eleven hours, Christmas is about wearing me out this year already. My poor daughter, and niece are making me a birthday cake tomorrow, another Nana tradition☺ This is the last cake my mom made for me, and her/my German Shepherd took a taste when we were looking☺ Some might say they're surprised six years already, but I'd say it's been a long road and lots has changed.
The cookies are from this book, 1963. Merry Christmas you and yours.

That's a lot of baking! I made a batch of Chocolate Waffle Cookies (my Mom's recipe) and I will bake a batch of Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies in the next day or two (my Mother-In-Law's recipe), and a couple of batches of Kettle Corn, for when we go to the daughters house Thursday. I like to bake cookies and have baked a bunch of them in the last few years.
