Front Axle assembly swap
Hi again after long hiatus, I am currently building a '70 C20 4WD. I have access to a 1987 GM Dana 60 front axle assembly, which would get me disc brakes up front :-). With the help of these forums, I understand it will "bolt in" with only a change to the shock mounts. No big deal for me, but what are the steering modifications necessary? I currently have power steering box.

Re: Front Axle assembly swap
No shock mounts need moved on the sqaure body front axles going into 67-72’s. Because your ‘70 was originally an open knuckle 44 axle, no steering mods are needed unless you are lifting. My 72 has a front 60 from an 89 can and chassis K30 converted to single wheel under it.
This axle is 100% bolt in, steering arm, shocks and all. I’ll post a pic if my truck in a bit.

Re: Front Axle assembly swap
Great thanks, yes pic would be helpful. So sounds like I can use my existing pitman arm? 4" lift, so already planned to change the steering arm...didn't realize that was the same too.

Re: Front Axle assembly swap
Yep the drop pitman will work just fine. A raised steering arm for a 44 will not obviously, but they do make them for the 60, the dodge arm is an option as well. Above is mine with about 4” lift under it. I would recommend the passenger side ubolt stud kit for it if you are lifting it, as well as the sqaure body upper leaf spring plates that the u bolts go thru, this will let you run a square body sway bar if you swap the engine cradle too. I dont have any steering corrections on mine as I don’t have any bump steer issues.
