Door hinge pins
I wanted to install new seals and adjust my doors as I decided to install a set of Altman latches.
I knew I had to start with my hinge pins and bushings. So a couple weeks ago, in preparation for this, I ordered a set of pins and bushings for both doors as well as several other parts for some other "maintenance" LOL. This morning I removed the driver door and noticed the pins and hinge bushings were loose, as I expected. I heated up one of the hinges and knocked the pin out. The ID of the bushings were shot, they are elongated and out of round on the OD. I got everything cleaned up and ready to reassemble when I realized my hinge pins and the bushings are larger in diameter. Both the upper and lower hinge pins are .395" diameter vs the new pins @ .340". Even the pin lengths are significantly different. Both of my pin shaft lengths are 3.20" vs the new pin length of 3.95" It's obvious now that GM changed these sizes but I don't even know what to order now. Dorman has about 15 different variations but none clearly identify the specs of the pin and bushing. Anybody else experience this and have any suggestions? |

Re: Door hinge pins
These should work https://classicparts.com/1960-91-door-hinge-rebuild-kit I did the hinges on my 94 and my 72. Had to cut the pins to length on both trucks. The hinge pins obtained for the 72 were NOS GM. If you have any doubts call or email Classic parts. Good to deal with.

Re: Door hinge pins
I actually did call them and they were very friendly but the only thing they could tell me about the pins in your link was what was listed on their site verbatim which still didn’t help me resolve my issue.

Re: Door hinge pins
Maybe find somebody with a lathe and make bushings to fit the hinge and the pins
Looks to be a pretty simple job |

Re: Door hinge pins
I used a Goodmark kit on my 72 C10 a few years back.
The Goodmark kit part # GMK404640269S. I purchased the kit from Rock auto, but I just checked and it seems they are out of stock, out of stock at Summit Racing also. I’m sure the kit is available somewhere, perhaps Goodmark directly? I did see that Rock auto gives the pin and bushing dimensions for most of the Dorman sets listed in the specs, maybe they have a Dorman set that more closely matches your hinges?

Re: Door hinge pins
I believe stock pins are 11/16" or .343 in diameter.
It doesn't explain your .395" pins. All the original hinges, I have repaired, had plastic bushing in them. The all brass bushings suggests your hinges may have been modified. Is the OD of the bushing correct for the hinge? All the hinge pins I have purchased have been longer than stock. I believe the extra long pin is so the same pin can be used in both the early and the later truck. I cut them down to the stock length just because I thing it looks better. Functional they are the same. Interesting the Classic web site listed their pin measurement as 4 1/8 I can get better measurements when I get home on Friday if not posted before then. Re: Door hinge pins
Talk to Cunningham Machine....I just did the pins/bushings on my 98, and now it's silent.

My suspicion is the PO may have replaced them, hence the odd sizing, but I'll never know for sure. I went to a NAPA (oops not NAPCO) shop here in town and they didn't have anything similar in stock so I just went back online to Classic Industries and bought a full set of hinges and the mounting bolts. My thought was after markets can't be any worse but I'll probably have to eat those words. I also chased all the threads too just to take that out of the equation. Stay tuned...
