700r4 won't shift at WOT

I have a 700r4 behind a gen 6 454. The transmission is recently rebuilt along with everything else for truck.

At wot the transmission won't shift in any gear. If you let off slightly it will but when you go back full throttle it wants to downshift regardless of rpm. I replaced the weights and springs on governor and cleaned it well with no change. The part throttle shifts are perfect.

I'm not sure if I need to adjust the TV cable out some but at the same time don't want to mess up the perfect part throttle shifts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 700r4 won't shift at WOT

.

Pull the servo, measure it and determine which one is installed. In my case, 1-2 shift would not happen at WOT but was fine at lighter throttle. The servo I had installed was the second weakest one. After I updated that to the full GM "Corvette" servo, WOT 1-2 shift cleaned right up. It will now do a light throttle 1-2 chirp of the tires (posi) if on the right kind of pavement. WOT 1-2 shift happens now...but I'm sure my driving it with a 4cylinder rated servo burned the clutches a bit...and that's why it's not as firm as I'd like. It does shift though which was the desired results.

EDIT: In my case, adjusting the TV tighter by a click didn't help the WOT shift issue, however it is an easy test and is worthwhile.

It has a Corvette servo in it. Replaced that when it was rebuilt then again after it was installed. Nothing changed.

The cable is kinda tricky, it fees like the cable is tight at idle but there is a small void before the cable actually starts to pull on the cable. You can feel the void when you pull on the cable. You can feel it about an 1/8” after slack is pulled .Try it with it unhooked from carb and car is off. That’s why I use a press. Gauge you can see the press. Rise as soon as your off idle. Hope I made sense trying to explain this Good luck

The one vehicle I had with a 700 trans, I pulled the cable up and matched it to WOT. If yours is staying in a lower gear, back off the adjustment a little, until it doesn't. FWIW, if the cable is too tight, you ain't getting WOT, anyway.

YEAH IT takes some to get it all correct , this is very critical to get right (been there done that). I used a BTO TV kit on my 69 pricey but well worth it ,on my 63 I used a stock setup .

It has all the right adapters for the Holley carb and mounting brackets. Normal driving it shifts perfect if not a little early. It's just wot it won't shift at all.

Then, is your gas pedal pulling the cable all the way?

Yes it's pulled completely tight where I can't pull it anymore at wot. Could it be pulling it to far?

I don't know the answer to that question, sorry. I was just asking so that you are sure the gas pedal has full travel.
