wiper problem

I'm in the final stages of my frame off restoration on a '72 SWB chevy. When I put my wiper arms on they go the wrong direction. The park position is when they are up. If I then remove them and put them down where they belong and turn them on they attack the cowl. It seems like they are reversed. What's going on?

Lightbulb Re: wiper problem

It is possible that the crank arm mounted to the motor is 180 degrees off. IIRC, the crank arm should be pointed down when the motor is in the park position.

I did have a defective wiper motor with an improper park position. I could not rectify it so I replaced it with another motor, and now all is well.

Re: wiper problem

Thank you for this post. After reading, I thought to myself that I think I mounted the arm 180 out. I had these off and on before the fire and working correctly. Disassembled for redo after fire, I reinstalled last week but was 180 out. I saw this post and thought to myself, I think I mounted wrong. Sure enough, they are mounted wrong. That would have really been a bummer if the arms had swung down on newly painted cowl and hood.
