Air filter a little too tall

Hello all,

As i dial in the truck for the coming summer one thing Bugs me is my air filter is ~1/4" too tall and the lid sits up off the air cleaner base and makes it louder than it needs to be.

I am running a WIX 42098 that measures 3.480"

I am hoping if I find one ~3.250" it will suppress some of the carb/air noise. Every listing has it spec'd at 3.5 inches

Truck is noisy enough and anything to keep the wife more happy on trips the better.

Split a 5/16 inch vac hose and slide it over the lip all the way around. That’ll take up that gap.

I measured a Fram CA326 and it measures much the same as that WIX. What does the sticker on the side of the housing call for? Any chance that housing is a transplant?

x2 on the housing being different vs OE as a possibility.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

I double checked the base,, it is definitely a 5.7, TBI base. No year on it anywhere.

That said,,, are there any 5.7 TBI trucks here and what filter are you using?

Those stickers used to include which AC filter was expected. Not always obvious. Maybe as simple as filter AC ### in small print. If you still have the emissions sticker, might be there.

Re: Air filter a little too tall

Wix does not have a 3.25" tall filter thats 9.88 inside diameter. I got a feeling your housing is a mix 'n match.

re the attached;
filter number / height / OD top / OD bottom / ID top / ID bottom
