Glass setting tape recommendations?
Anyone had good results with any particular tape to set the door glass into? i have seen some that have cork as part of it and some that are just butyl I guess.

Re: Glass setting tape recommendations?
I don't know what my local glass shop used, but the vent windows and side windows that I had them re-set haven't budged a bit since then

Re: Glass setting tape recommendations?
fixing to try the tape classic parts of america sells for vents but my glass shop said to use black silicone so I did that on my 58 and it came out perfect on door and vents but if you ever wanted that glass out again I bet it would be nearly impossible to remove

Re: Glass setting tape recommendations?
I bought some from one of the popular truck supply places and it was too thick. When I used it on the vent window it spread out the channel and caused the attachment pins to fall out. I would buy a couple of different thicknesses and see what works best.
Now that I think of it I wonder if that is why so many people have issues with the windows rolling up all the way and the channels getting stuck in the beltline fuzzies. If the tape is too wide then it will spread the channel apart and make it too wide to fit. Man I wish I thought of that a long time ago. |

Re: Glass setting tape recommendations?
It's a common problem for door windows not wanting to roll up because of the lower channel hitting the door whiskers. On my truck I pinched the top edges of that lower channel so the glass just fit in. Then I used windshield urethane caulk to fasten the glass in. If you go to a windshield shop before closing time you can often get them to give you a partial tube. My window channel still hits the whiskers but will easily bump past.

Re: Glass setting tape recommendations?
Thanks for the replies, on the thickness I did see this precision video that explains how to tell what thickness you need. I had to order some new glass so Ill wait to measure everything once it gets here.
