Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
I was thrilled to see him go this route. The original charge tube I welded from an aluminum donut was so thin I worried that the first time he built any boost, it would blow a hole right thru it. The 3D printed one is 1/8" thick everywhere and will survive anything he throws at it. I'm glad to see him get back on the GTO project. After we mounted the turbo and built all the plumbing, he had the exhaust installed and trailered it home. It sat in his garage with almost zero love until he moved to Denton this summer. Then he blew up the LS in his Cougar and was reduced to driving the Mazda truck. He's building a Godzilla for the Cougar, but nothing motivates a hotrodder like being on foot.

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
So, after much deliberation, I've decided to abandon the Roadrunner grille project. The dimensions of the swap and the logistics of designing and constructing the necessary pieces make it a formidable task. I'm sure a shop with unlimited resources could pull it off, but I'm not that guy. As much as I dislike the ho-hum stock setup, I think I can add a few touches here and there that improve the overall appearance. I've made several trips to storage to retrieve parts and pieces of the grille assembly to see what might work best.
The Roadrunner stuff I collected will become a piece of wall art. When the Fairlane is done, I want to move everything out of the shop into one of those storage pods and have the floor and walls painted. Every year when I go to World of Wheels, I get business cards from vendors that do man cave makeovers. One of these days...

Re: 65 Fairlane pro-touring build
The Roadrunner stuff I bought is officially becoming wall art. Still waiting on a few trim pieces - the post office hasn't delivered mail since last Saturday. I'll need to fabricate the outer fender skins where they meet the hood, headlight bezels and the bumper. So far, I don't regret kicking this mod to the curb. None of the parts want to fit together and making them look right on the car would have been a real tester. Going to be bad enough making something I can hang on the wall.
Meanwhile, I trial assembled the Fairlane grille and Fed-Ex dropped off some parts from SendCutSend this morning. Part of my effort to spice up the stock Fairlane grille was to add a little art-deco to them. Drew up what I wanted in my DeltaCAD program and sent the .dxf file to SCS. They cut the parts out of 1/8" aluminum flat sheet and sent them my way. I rounded the edges on the belt sander, blasted them and glued them together with quick setting JB Weld. After they set up, I blasted them again to remove the excess epoxy and reinstalled the bezels on the car. It's not a lot, but better than just a plain flat bezel. Some artfully applied powder coat and paint to the rest of grille should finish it off. .
