Re: What Lead Additive is best by brand

For the small engines I use a combo of Marvels Mystery oil and Sta-bil. In my cars I use just the Marvels. I'm in California, so the actual lead additive is not available as far as I know

YOu're right, not a lead additive, but lead is a quase lubricant and the marvels fills that gap somewhat. Like I said, I don't see lead additives on the California shelves. I'd have to take a trip over to Reno and pick up some Lucas brand stuff.

You will not find any additive that contains lead . Are you using aviation fuel since it’s the only fuel I know of that still contains lead .

I do not use Ethonol in my older 350 engine ,and do not use it in my snow blower or the lawnmower or my generators .
I use
Ethonol free 87 ,,I am asking what brand of lead additive is the most popular used by people with older engines like mine

You can only buy lead substitutes, not actual lead additives

Re: What Lead Additive is best by brand

GOPAPA, If you're asking in reference to your truck engine, it likely has hardened valve seats so you are fine with lead less gas unless somebody swapped pre 1971 heads onto it. If you are getting pinging, buying 89 or 91 gas may do the trick. If you want input on octane boosters to help with pinging, that is a different question than lead substitutes (pre ignition vs. combustion chamber lubrication). If you want to do without the negative effects of ethanol, here's a website where you can find gas near you without it.
