Fuel valve location - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anyone have pics or ideas on where this valve is located. I believe it is located by the drivers side floor board

Mine mounts like so. It's mounted so that the pointer is on the main tank in this photo. I probably should make a plate indicating which tank. I have two saddle tanks.

Considering you're going to do it by feel 99 times out of a hundred, labeling may be superfluous ;-)

Nothing like going down the road, and the truck starts to sputter. I had that happen one time driving north on the 101 into Carmel. It started stumbling, and I managed to find a fuel source. It belonged to my FiL at the time, and was known to not start hot. If it had died, we'd have sat on the 101, flagging people around until it cooled off enough to start again. That usually took about an hour. After we inherited the truck, I got it sorted out.

If this of any help it looks like the holes already in place my floor are in exactly the same location as posted by Steeveedee but here it is w/no carpet:

I would also like to suggest that you make sure that the valve and any fittings that you are going to use do not pose a restriction to the flow.

Back in the day a friend bought a brand new 71 or 72 (don't remember for sure) C30 stake body truck w/a 400 big block and 4 speed. He had two large saddle tanks installed behind the cab and under the bed. If you accelerated hard from a stop in second gear, not low, the engine would run out of fuel by the time you were ready to shift.

I don't know if he ever had the problem corrected but I am willing to bet that the selector valve or fittings were too small.

It looks to me that the fittings in the valve body are 1/4 inch NPT with reducing bushings to 1/8 NPT. If so, these bushings may pose too much restriction unless it is never placed under much of a load.

Thanks all for the help and yes it is necked down, I’ve been soaking the threads with hopes of removing the fittings and then removing the stem to see if its sealing

Thanks for the location pic helps a lot

Actually I was thinking maybe a theft deterrence I could shut the fuel off

Any idea of the screw size that holds the handle on

Also, what did the factory use for fittings?
