It is actually a medium to dark charcoal gray color. The box has never been painted or messed with. I just thought that was interesting as I continue to restore the truck.

That's odd...I did a rebuild and modification of my heater box and it was a semigloss black. I figured that it just lost its shine with age. Long story short, I repainted it gloss black. To me it looks right with how I am refinishing the truck.
