Paint my grille chrome or black or leave it alone

My current mesh grille inserts are nice and not cracked or chipped but they are a dull sliver gray color. Should I take them out and paint them chrome, black or replace them or just leave them. What was the correct finish for the year of the truck (72)

I cannot embed pics for some reason but here is a pic showing the grille a bit

Nice truck! To embed pictures, when you make a reply, click on the paper clip in the menu. That'll open a window where you can upload pictures. If you get a "token" error, you just have to resize the pic smaller.

Just now saw this, somehow missed it earlier. Agreed, the grill is as it should be.

Paint the wheels to match the grille or paint the wheels white, the grille looks good.

Re: Paint my grille chrome or black or leave it alone

if you want something a bit different they also make a plastic chrome grill insert - found on nearly all the parts distributors websites like LMC. There's also a fabricator in the Portland, Oregon area that custom makes aluminum grill inserts that look factory OEM - you can get it in brushed aluminum or polished to look chrome. They are in the $1000+ range however.

Re: Paint my grille chrome or black or leave it alone

You could repaint it factory. The guy who painted my truck restored mine. He shot it, but didn't like the rough spots, so he sanded everything smooth, shot it again, and topped it off with the same clear as the rest of the truck. It's much heavier, feels nice.

Funny thing of two NOS, and this one installed in 1992, the used one was the best option of three.

The gray/silver color is factory. Here is a pic of my 72 C20. Just like the others.

That doesnt look much different than mine. So explain what "factory" is or means.

If you paint it, sooner or later the paint will start to peel and look like crap.
