Elec trolling motor questions
I have a small 10ft flat bottom aluminum boat that my grandson and I use to fish. Its probably a little small but we only take it on small lakes that dont allow gas engine powered boats. We've been using oar power the last couple of years and its a little cumbersome. I had electric trolling motor on my Christmas list and surprise I got the exact one I wanted (heh). Now I need a battery and some sort of small charger.
Its a Minnkota 40lb thrust 36" shaft. The manual reads 42 AMP draw. Im looking at lithium batteries because I like the lighter weight. Looking on Amazon they have plenty under 150 bucks, some under 100 bucks. Im looking at this one. https://www.amazon.com/ECO-WORTHY-50...0C49STP5P&th=1 Any input on battery choice for a small trolling motor? Ive never owned a battery I need to keep charged so Im also looking for input on a decent priced charger?

Re: Elec trolling motor questions
The battery you selected on Amazon has a 50Ah rating.
So you can pull one amp at 12V for 50 hours. Your draw will run this for a little over one hour. Drawing a battery down this far isn't perfect, it but depends on the battery type/style. This one claims to offer a greater depth of discharge. You should be good with 640W of power (it's 53 amps @12V). If you need to go longer, purchase another battery and double your range. Re: Elec trolling motor questions
I went ahead and ordered the battery I linked to. I thought about ordering two like you mention, but I want to see how this works out. Just gotta make sure we bring the oars with us (just in case). I also ordered this NOCO charger. I have NOCO jump box and Ive had good luck with it.

Re: Elec trolling motor questions
Wowee. All this new fangled battery stuff is confusing with all the information and applications, etc.
I think I have the same Minn Kota as yours and I have always used the lead acid batt from my extra truck. Way plenty of power for the Minn and small outboard starter for the little bit of fishing I do on small area lakes. I still use a 10 amp charger I've had for 40 years. Old technology but it still works. ![]() I am giving some thought to lightening the load. My boat is a 14' aluminum flat bottom and I am looking at possibly adding one of those 10' two man plastic ones like a Pond Prowler that weight about 100#. I would use the same Minn on it so weight is a concern. It appears from the Ion battery info a conventional charger can be used, if I read that right. The product reviews look positive but can you trust those? I mean, the seller can write all of that stuff. I look forward to hearing how your 50 amp batt works for you.

Re: Elec trolling motor questions
Ive received both and the battery is charged and everything is ready to go, but Im not lol. My wife keeps asking me when Im going to test my new toys out, it was in the teens this morning so not today haha. I am on the lookout for another boat, still aluminum but with a V bottom and maybe a little longer. Grandson isnt getting any smaller and neither am I lol
"Gonna need a bigger boat"

Re: Elec trolling motor questions
I think I still have my OLD 2 spd Minn Kota. I believe it is something like 15 or 18 lb thrust.
