Towing & Trans Cooler

Working on redoing the cooling system on my 70 c1500. New radiator and water pump but thinking of doing a transmission cooler as well. Currently it’s a 350/350 but hoping to do a 400/4l80e to be able to tow my 55 Chevy and boat.

Wondering what’s a good transmission cooler to install. Prefer stacked design as it seems like a better idea especially being in Texas

On my LS/4L60E swap combos I always use a B&M stacked plate trans coolers.
Pic of my current project 80 Camaro with a LS3/4L60E swap. I use -6 SS for cooler lines. The cooler has NPT inlets and outlets so I can adapt the -6 lines.

Thanks for the info. By chance do you have a model number for the b&m?

I used the Derale 40 Row stacked plate cooler (54006) with the -6an fittings on a k30 Squarebody with a built 700r4. 67,000 BTU rating, it was one of the biggest ones I could find.

Pricey but definitely worth it in my opinion, I originally had a Hayden 689 which when warm out and towing or climbing the hill to my house the transmission temps would get pretty high. After switching to the Derale I never remotely had an issue.

No part number but I just measured it. It's about 11" wide and about 10" tall

I use the B&M Hi-Tek cooler with a fan
They make 2 sizes.
I like the auto on at 170 degrees too.
They are not cheap, but way cheaper than a trans rebuild.
I see that others are making something similar.
This keeps my trans cool. If it starts to heat up, I just flip the switch from auto to on.

I always see two options offered up every time for the 4L80e:

1. Grab a transmission cooler from a Ford F-250/350 (They are HUGE)
2. Tru-Cool 40K transmission cooler.
