How far off the body is the upper and lower trim supposed to be?

My upper and lower trim sits far enough off the body that I can see the ground when looking downward on it and I think it looks like crap. On the ends where it is bolted or clipped, it is tight against the body but it sticks out where the plastic stick on clips are. I fixed a couple of the drivers side lower pieces by using the bolt on clips or push in clips and it looks better. I am now planning to fix the rest of it now too. I'd like to know if GM originally left them a bit off the body.

Here is a pic looking down on the passenger side door and the top of the pic is the front of the truck. As yo can see towards the top of the pic the trim is flush with the door but in the middle it is pushed out by the plastic clip and adhesive. I suspect the adhesive is swelled and that the clips are not tight in the trim track or are upside down.

Freedom isn't safe, it requires you to take responsibility for your own life, your own safety, and your own success. It carries with it the possibility of failure and the understanding that you're working without out a safety net. If you give the state the responsibility for any of these you also give up the freedom that accompanies the responsibility.

looks like you might have a rusted of missing clip there. Looks a bit further out than normal

The clip in the pic is one of the plastic ones on the small top trim. Something about them isnt right on how they sit and why they arent against the body.
