47-55.1 Anyone fit sm465 with the original brake/clutch

I’m trying to fit a 292 with sm465 into a 1951 Chevy suburban. The problem is the clutch fork is so long it runs into the pivot point on the original brake/clutch setup. It’s at least 2” too long.

Curious if any of you guys have had luck keeping pedals in the same spot?

My thoughts are maybe if I cut clutch fork after first notch maybe I can offset engine to passenger side and maybe have enough room.

* moving engine up doesn’t help since it would still hit brake arm.
* moving engine down would have to be close to 4 inches down. That would need notching crossmember for harmonic balancer, oil pan clearance on steering linkage, fan issues.

Are you running a cast iron V8 bellhousing and the 51 Clutch fork?

The late model clutch forks don't fit in AD trucks with stock pedals.

My 48 with the 250 in it has a cast iron truck bellhousing and a 48/53 clutch

I deleted that photo because although it is close it may not be the correct Truck pieces.

Note that it won't stick out of the bellhousing very far.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I’m using a cast iron bell housing looks like the same one as my v8 has. I’m going to move things around as much as I can next week and see if I can come up with solution. I’ll let you know. I was really hoping to keep old pedals down there.

Remember that the SM465 has a larger od on the bearing collar than an SM428.

I didn't think of that one last night but you have to use the cast iron bellhousing that came with it.
