Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

With the woodwork shed suddenly becoming a sheep shed, I meant sleeping shed and having an emergency paying guest test it out during the coldest nights in a year….. in -3’C it was decided by my sensible side and discussions with two good friends, Martin and Fil that a Chinese diesel heater would probably give me much better heat at less than 25% of an electric oil filled heater.

So I put @sparkplug Fil in charge of purchasing the new equipment and ancillaries.

Three days later he left his home in Cambridge with the outside temperature showing at -6’C My driveway was showing-5’C when he arrived.

So after the customary exchange of gifts, junk and insults, we had a cuppa tea and discussed his plan for the day.

Then we headed out to the garage and shed to get the Maxpeedingrods Chinese Diesel Heater unboxed.

This was a great opportunity for me to actually see what I had bought with Fils advice.

Some photos and video below.

It is my first unboxing video and I am very pleased with the way Fil got it done and explained it all.

Comments, advice welcomed.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Well……

Fill is headed back as I type for a rematch

Also, a trailerload of electronics to try improve my my WiFi reception inside the house, down to the ‘Lil Shed and my workshop area.

Great when you have friends who know their router from their route planner.

But here’s where we got to.

Some revision and changes coming today.

I will be doing a second observation video after todays updates.

Upload as soon as I get the time.

Video of the test and subsequent observations for your enjoyment

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Slightly better weather yesterday.

Another hugely productive and entertaining day spent with @sparkplug for company and doing a shedload of work.

Diesel heater reinstalled and working beautifully.

Photos and a video to follow for those interested in this revision.

BONUS INSTALLATION: Remote WiFi installed down in the woodwork shed after trying it in various locations.

Fil did a load of work on the system to create a seamless connection from the house to the garage and carport.

Historically I had almost non existent internet and WhatsApp down at the shop.

Now we are Rocking

Thanks Fil.

.

As a PS: Why does a seller of a £250.00 car post this sort of ad. ( I tried to deal with him before and failed) Unless the withdrawal is to protect possible buyers.

Screenshot for your amusement.

A quick bit of “ upholstery “ for the diesel heater pump and filter housing.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Revised and refitted the diesel heater to function much more as it had been planned for.

Moved the electric pump and filter outside, onto a ppst and surrounded by a 300mm or 12” inner diameter pipe of about 18” or 45mm
Then added a reasonably silent, padded lid to it.

Now ypu cannot hear it at all.

Thrre is one small job legt and that will be to route the air intake filter outside as you can hear it sucking air.

The actual diesel heater is silent once you have started it up.

Video of a few things done.

I am really pleased with the final second version of this heater.

It is also super efficient in heating this 25 square meter or 75 square foot space.

Insulation clearly works well.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

End of one, start of another.

Rezin Rockit got collected on Valentine’s Day

And it clearly didn’t want to go.

Kicked me in the nuts as I started it up to drive it up onto the transport trailer.

I had ensured that it was perfect for the new owner during the week and gave him a run through of its functions.

A video showing him what he was getting.

It still looked so good parked in the carport.

But when I started it up, there was a squealing sound and the silence as the fanbelt, original to the engine, shredded itself and knocked the crankshaft crank position sensor off its mounting point. Rendering the engine unable to start.

So we pushed it over and used the winch to load it.

Totally gutted.

https://youtu.be/z1pTAbEPMOY?si=gGR28eY30EAdfQeD

I absolutely hate selling stuff and not delivering on expectations.

This time though, the car had the last laugh.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Not a lot done today. But a video filmed.

35’F outside today with a breeze

Started Moving stuff around

Clearing workspace

Little steps

Easy.

The trailer loaded with a pile of wooden shutters.

Swept out the carport as well.

Then unearthed the cab roller as well as the cab hoist.

Remember this tool Martin and I made 9 years ago.

https://youtu.be/vfTC9wyQKK0?si=npy_ZEtnD1rmPXS9

More clearing space to do tomorrow.

Hopefully a little bit every day.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

A big help, that's how I moved my cabin too.
We had -9° at night, the next few nights aren't going to be any better, no desire to do anything in the shop.

Hi Harald
Yes, cold gets into my bones these days.

I have no heating in my shop or carport.

Not ideal.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Getting back to the truck is going to be a slow process.

But…….

George will ensure that I get out of bed.

Stuff will happen.

Slowly.

Possibly.

So more clearing up and moving stuff around has resulted in the wheels turning a bit.

https://youtu.be/_UoaTCgT-Kk?si=60t7DyeEggjWj-fL

More to come.

I have no choice.

Seems some people watch closely.
