metal framed window

my 65 c60 door glass has the metal frame around it. Can I do away with the frame and just use regular window seals? I'm thinking yes but wanted to make sure
Thanks

Re: metal framed window

I know the "framed" door glass is laminated, meaning 2 layers of glass with a plastic layer in-between just like windshields. The non-framed door glass is tempered, being a single layer of glass and shatters into small pieces when broken.

I've never measured the thickness of each so I can't be sure if they can be interchanged. I also don't know if the frame helps keep the sandwich of layers together.

Laminated glass is quieter and that is why it was used on the medium duties.
