What is this?
Anyone know what this is? I assume it's some sort of fuel/water separator, though it looks like it's not a factory part. Is there any reason to keep it? This was my grandpa's truck (he was an auto mechanic for 60 years), so I'm sure he added it for some reason, but it seems like unnecessary complication for the easy life this truck has now. I'm thinking about removing it and putting a straight piece of tubing from one hard line to the other. Thoughts?

Re: What is this?
Pretty sure that's exactly what it is an old school water separator.

Re: What is this?
Would there be any reason to keep it? The truck is not driven in winter and kept in a heated garage.

Re: What is this?
Grandpa might have added that after getting a bad tank of fuel a long time ago. I would remove it.

Re: What is this?
Plus at this point you don't know how much rust it contains.

Re: What is this?
If the drain has not been open in a while and it's still serviceable, might be interesting to see what comes out. May also give you a clue as to if keeping it is worthwhile or not.
