Oil Fill Tube Clearance Suggestions

Hi All, I have a clearance issue with my oil fill tube / breather cap and carb. Just polling the group to see if anyone has any good ideas to remedy the situation. I realize that "get a different carb" is an option, but I do want to run the one that I have (which is a 670 Avenger, kind of a long carb). The oil fill tube runs through an air gap intake and is a little bit farther back (toward the rear) than I typically see. Thus, the float bowl is almost touching the tube, and would be well into the big breather cap that goes on top. The carb is just sitting on the intake for a fit test right now. The options as I see them are:
1) buy a new carb
2) cut the fill tube down as low as I can and find a low profile cap that does not extend much (if any) past the diameter of the tube. The problem with this is that I would like it to be a filtered intake for PCV.
3) cut my big filtered breather cap and tack a piece of metal over what I cut, so that it would not be round but kind of D shaped. This would be to eliminate that part of the cap that would be into the carb.
4) reverse the PCV and make the fill tube the vacuum side.
5) nix the PCV all together and put a low profile cap on. There is a crank case vent right next to the distributor that would prevent any positive pressure.

Angle it to the side enough to clear things. If the manifold hole only fits straight up, see if you can get a tube with a bend in it.

Hey Geezer, that is part of the plan. I don't know that I have enough room to raise it up far enough to completely clear the cap.

Parrot, first prize is to figure out a solution without pulling the manifold and removing the filler tube. But it may end up having to happen.

Shortest path to me seems to be swap the intake. Sitting there, it's an hour's work and a couple of hundred bucks. Aside from the troublesome tube mod, it's not a great intake for a mild performance engine.

Risers can create hesitation at low and mid throttle, as the "signal" of demand takes longer to get to the carb. 1" or so is fine and can sometimes improve mid- and high-RPM power; anything more is a no. Be sure to figure out your planned air cleaner and underhood clearance.

Making weird things fit is what hot rodding is all about ;-)

If the choice is between new smaller carb and pulling manifold on a motor sitting on a stand, I would pull the manifold.

Is that tube support just a support or also a coupler?

Might check the Eddy forums/support and see if someone already has a solution.

If you go with "cut the tube", maybe an exhaust shop can custom bend an insert for you. Or a plumber that does a lot of custom sink installs - That fill pipe looks close to drain pipe size.
