Buying tires online and ship to your house?

Anyone do this? Found at least a couple dealers with free shipping.

Who'd you buy from? I found online tires: Simple tire, Custom offset etc

I live in the boonies and closets Les Swab, and another tire store are a way overpriced rip off and they try and sell you tires that they want,,, rather than the tires that you want... plus they are idiot

I do it quite often. I usually get mine from Tire Rack, but the last set I got for my Toyota was from a company called online tires

For maybe the past 20 years or so I've been buying from tirerack.com, having the tires shipped most often to my residence but last few times to an installer locally. The pricing was usually 100 dollars or more better than buying at local brick and mortar stores even after their installation fees ( 100 bucks ). Many of those years the price difference was even larger in my favor as I was buying premium summer sport Goodyear Eagles. Later the relief became about 100 bucks.

The last time I went to do this things didn't seem to be jiving with what I was accustomed to so I did research and found that the brick and mortar brand Discount Tire purchased tirerack.com and after some comparison found the pricing had been adjusted to more closely match the Discount Tire model.

So yeah, Online was my preferred choice but I'm at a loss these days as to where the best sites would be. tirerack.com isn't the best place to go any longer...

EDIT: I re-read OP...If you have no national chain options for tire replacement/repair and therefore are subject to local maw-n-pop $tuff, tariff$ and other $henanigans then maybe tirerack.com is your best solution. The site will offer free delivery of your tires to a local installer if they are reigstered, otherwise ship to house and pay 100 bucks to have installed.

I've done business with Les Schwab for47 years and might agree that they do push what they have in stock but when I am on the road anywhere in the PNW there is a Les Schwab store in any town of any size or the next town over and they have taken care of me when on a road trip a number of times. I also have former Auto Shop students of mine who are managers or assistant managers. I won't argue a minute about their high prices though. I just spent close to 200 for a battery for my HHR with them.

A few years back my wife were headed to an event with our boat friends in Poulsbo Wa . I hit a piece of scrap iron on I 90 right close to a spot called West Nelson Siding and destroyed a new tire and got to the side of the road and changed the tire and went on to the Les Schwab in North Bend to have it taken care of. They didn't have a new tire but loaned me a real nice take off that was part of a set of four, Found me the correct new tire and had it shipped to the store in Toppenish that I have done business with and got me on the road and back on my vacation. A week later when I got home I went down and had new tire put on and the store shipped the loaner back to North Bend. That store takes care of my sister . Maybe we just have better service here than you have in back woods Idaho.

That said, yuppers you can find some great deals on line but remember when they stick the tires on the UPS truck they are pretty well done with them. They don't have to mount or balance them they don't have to figure out why and how much they are out of round. If you have a bad tire you have to get ahold of them to have it taken care of and then might have to ship it back and wait before they will deal with it. Plus if you ruin one on the road you are headed to the closest tire store to find a tire that comes half way close to matching. That is the problem when you don't buy a brand of tire that is sold nationally or buy from an outfit that isn't regional or National . In the early 70's I worked in a Firestone Company store in Waco Tx and would honestly have made a career with Firestone and worked for them for years except for the jerk I had for a boss.
I worked on a lot of cars that came in off I 35 and made their way to the store because they had Firestone tires on or the guy out at the gas station on the highway sent them to me. He wasn't even a buddy of mine but sent me a lot of business.

I'm looking at buying Diamondback wide whites for my 48 and will have to order them and have them shipped and then worry about the same issues that I just mentioned. and the first road trip for the 48 is to Texas to visit my wife's sisters and friends and go to an event down there. If a tire goes bad I'll just have to buy what I can find and keep on keeping on but I want wide whites and local tire stores don't sell them as far as I know. I can mount them on my Harbor freight tire machine and balance them with my Hunter on the car spin balancer so mounting an balancing isn't a big thing.

My only issue when you buy online is that if you ruin one on the road on the way to something fun the only thing you can do is buy one from a tire shop in the next town that probably won't match as you aren't going to get anything done about warranty until you get home and contact the outfit you bought it from. For getting something taken care of on the road nation wide Walmart may actually be the best choice.

Remember to check the date of manufacture. Nobody will touch a ten year old tire.

Les Swab wanted $500 each for Toyo 35" tires, that's over $100 more each per tire than Discount Tire, so way over $400 more, plus more tax and more mounting and balancing $$$$

Thanks for the positive online buyer replies, sounds like a good option.

I do it if I'm looking for a particular tire. None of the tire shops around me could get the tires I wanted.

Otherwise there's Melvin's Tire in Murray, what a great bunch of guys.

I have a good friend that has been in the tire business for years... he does it all, from golf carts to big, and I do mean BIG, heavy equipment tires. He can get any tire made and he is my go-to guy.

I have bought online once or twice -- can't recall for sure, it has been many years ago. It went okay, but I had no tire failures to deal with either. Shop around, many tire shops will price match a valid, printed quote.
One of my sons has worked at America's Tire for several years, so that's my obvious go-to now.

I've always bought my Michelins through Tire Rack. I'm lucky in that they have a warehouse 20 minutes from my house. I have my local Town Fair Tire swap out my old tires and balance them for $90.

Once I ruined a tire due to road hazard. Made a claim with Tire Rack and after a few days and exchanging pictures of the dead tire, they honored my claim and I was reimbursed the expense of replacing it myself.

Years ago I bought many sets of tires from Tirerack and no sales tax. Always had good service. But maybe 10 years ago they opened a DC in the MPLS area so now they charged sales tax.
So now I just buy tires at a local tire shop. They are typically within $20 per tire. Also free rotate and balance for the life of the tire.

Ive purchased from Diamond Back online with zero problem. More of a specialty tire store though. I also purchased from one of the large off road parts places (slips my mind at the moment CRS). It was a bit of a cluster, but in the end I got all four tires and was happy with them.

I get my regular tires from Les Schwab. Not the cheapest but Ive never had an issue where I felt pushed into a particular tire. They have excellent after the purchase service that I really appreciate. Extreme example I was in Idaho coming home to Washington and it was very early morning, still very dark out, and I hit a chunk of deer that a semi had obliterated. Part of the chunk were the antlers. Punched a hole in the side of a tire. I was able to get pulled over and changed to the crappy spare. First town I came to had a Les Schwab. I rolled in there over an hour before opening but some of the employees were there. They pulled my car in and I got two tires. I was close to having them replaced anyway. They also cleared all the deer gunk out of my undercarriage. They had me done and on the way before they were open.

I just went and shopped both Tires-easy and Priority Tire. I'll give my short review here.

Both sites had inexpensive options for my selected tire sizes: 255/45/20 front and 295/40/20 rear in the 100 dollar each range. The Brands of these options were unfamiliar names...nevertheless, the options were presented.

I'll give the nod to Priority simply due to their allowing search of staggered tire sizes front/rear whereas Tires-easy doesn't, and free shipping. Otherwise, the interfaces are easy enough to navigate and find what you're after and the prices seem OK. Priority Tire's "width" selection box was/is very strange though. I particularly like that both offer the low end right along with the high end products.

I'll be making a purchase very soon and will likely go with one of these.

I have not had much luck with on line tires, been years though. I tend to get my tires thru NTB. Which tends to have stores where I travel too and honoring of the warranty or fixing flats with no issues. The biggest issue I had with tire rack or other online locations, there were no approved tire installers in my area, so I ended up having to pay out of pocket for mounting and balance. Then getting flats fixed (my wife will find nails and etc). So far I am satisfied with NTB (National Tire & Battery).

I didnt like either. Both websites were frustrating to navigate, and tire brand and size is very limited, no spec info. Same with wheel selection. Neither had my tires brand and size

Discount Tire, Simple Tire, and Walmart are my go to places for tires. Walmart had good deals on the ATs for my F150, I ordered them online and took to another shop to install.
