Location of Radio Antenna question ?

First of all ,,did the 1983 Chevy Truck come out with a radio antenna located on the cowl in front the windshield passenger side ,,,OR was it within the windshield glass?

If ? The antenna was located in the cowl ..is there a diagram for where exactly to drill a hole for a antenna for my truck as it does not have one

Re: Location of Radio Antenna question ?

'83 was in windshield glass.

The antenna was moved to a fender mounted mast for the 1989-1991 R/V Suburban and Blazer.

A person could probably retrofit those parts if interested.

Thanks Keith ,,I will be mounting a antenna on the truck and not use the window with a built in antenna ,,maybe some one who reads this can measure where there antenna is mounted on their truck like my square body is with measurements for me to go by to do the same .

Re: Location of Radio Antenna question ?

My 84 base model Sierra 2500 had a fender mounted antenna. I had to get a new windshield so got the one with the antenna embedded in it. Safelight said it was cheaper than one without. Go figure. I'm looking for a fender that doesn't have the hole now, to swap out.

I have been thinking of getting fender mount due to reception in windshield is not very good sometimes.

65chevysub, would it be possible to take some measurements of the hole location and maybe pic of hole?

I'll see if I can find my pics of it in my gallery on my desktop. My truck is currently at the shop getting a "new" engine. I won't have measurements, just a photo.

Re: Location of Radio Antenna question ?

I did a Google search and only saw 67-72 trucks. If there is more, I did not see it. Not sure if 67-72 will work.

Re: Location of Radio Antenna question ?

Found this one on EBay- parts book says it fits 81-84 trucks for use with a slide in camper
https://www.ebay.com/p/657387253
or
https://www.ebay.ca/itm/375958179456

The other kit was part number 997715- guessing this was a fixed mast kit
fixed antenna used on 87-81 R/V trucks was 12340276
