Center link location
Does the center link matter which way its installed? LMC Diagram shows from the bottom up. I have mine mounted from the top down. Which is the correct way and if installed incorrectly will it cause the truck to wander? Bottom image is from Motor City K5.

Re: Center link location
Typical early model tie rod end is nut down, late model is nut up. Cannot remember exact year change was made. Though I can say 72 and earlier is nut down. If 70 or earlier truck with disk brakes the axle may have been swapped with a later model axle. Note that the taper in the knuckle would most likely prevent even grabbing a few threads if installed wrong.

Re: Center link location
It can only be mounted one way because the taper in the tie rod ends. If it could be mounted upside down, the truck would still drive normally.
My 70 has the nut facing down. Edit; Sorry Richard, I read your reply after posting mine. Last edited by hemi43; 02-25-2025 at 10:08 AM. |

The change in tie rod end design was in 1973 to nut up. 1967-72 K series tie rod/ends are all interchangeable. GM 6273901 or DANA 36141 RH thread and GM 3273902 or DANA 36142 LH thread.
