Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
Picked up a 70 gmc a few months back and it had a newer disc brake conversion kit on it. The guy I bought it from didn't do it or have any paperwork so I am trying to figure out what it is.
Power dual master Looks like gm 52 calipers. pads have part number bxc-969-ff 6 lug rotors I am trying to find out what the rotors, wheel bearings, and seals are from. I was going to pull the bearing and grease them just to check everything over. Its my daily and figure it doesnt hurt to regrease them why I am especially interested in the seal. Any ideas? I dont have the front wheels off why I havent took a picture yet. Being lazy but can later |

Re: Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
Most likely everything is compatible with the 71 72 brakes. Except the 6 lug rotors which are an aftermarket part.

Re: Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
Any other upgrades, drop spindles, lowering springs, etc? That might give a clue to who's kit it may or may not be.

Re: Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
A lot of kit makers stamp their name on the calipers. CPP puts them on the spindles

Re: Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
Finally got off my butt now that the weather warmed up and snagged some pictures. Any help identifying would be great so I know what to order. Plan on doing new rotors, pads, bearings, and seals.

Re: Aftermarket disc brake kit identification
If you remove the rotor, the seal should have a number on it. Doesn't matter what brand of seal, most parts stores should be able to identify it.
(I sold auto parts for 13 years from 1985 to 1998). You WILL have access to the outer bearing (Captain obvious), when you remove the rotor there's a number on that outer bearing. You may be able to see the number on the inner bearing upon removal also. You may have to wipe off grease to reveal it. Knowing the bearing numbers might (I said might...) reveal the race numbers (which cannot be read when installed) IF, IF the bearings used are common sets you might be able to decipher the races by the bearings.........maybe.The common set numbers for the 71-72 AND 73 and up are set3 and set 5. BCA bearins used to designate those sets as A3 and A5. The half ton sets for the 70 and earlier (drum brakes) were set 6 and set 2. |
