Angry Rusty Chrome Wheels

Man those things rust like crazy if you don't maintain them enough!
This horror is from letting them sit in a moist garage without checking on them for a rather short period of time.
I go over them with #0000 steel wool rubbed into some wax to help remove the rust but once etched through the chrome they don't waste any time rusting again.
Friend asked if I could spray some rattle can clear coat on them but I don't think it would stick or last very long before flaking off.
I have to run a heater with a fan to dry the wax at this time of year too.
These are the best Chrome wheels I've seen for 6 lug but the temptation to go 5 lug just for a better choice of aluminum wheels has crossed my mind.
Then my wallet reminds me what a poor slob I am.

Re: Rusty Chrome Wheels

Thank you.

Yea I've had those wheels for about 28 years now and once you neglect them for long enough to allow the rust to cut through the chrome you're doomed to maintaining them frequently or else...

Re: Rusty Chrome Wheels

.

This reminds me how much time I used to spend back in the day with my chrome wheels and a bottle of this stuff right here...

Re: Rusty Chrome Wheels

Years ago I saw a newer truck with Centerline mags somewhat similar to these and I thought my truck would look real good with those on it.
Then I started to do the math on just how much it might all cost in the end. $$$

...break out the steel wool and wax.

They turned out pretty good though IMHO.

By the way, my truck picture counts as a Sideways Saturday shot.
