Quite a few Sniper EFIs for sale on Book of Faces

I usually browse marketplace ads to see what crap ppl are trying to push off and I searched for the Sniper EFI systems. There are quite a few for sale, and they are 3/4 or better the price of new. Why in the *&%$$# would I pay that much for a USED or even opened box system of electronics that are not under warranty? Who knows if they work or what they have had done to them. I don't think I would pay even 1/2 price for one of them.

Now, I have found some good deals on Marketplace, such as a pellet smoker for $150 that was a name brand and like new.

Ok, my afternoon rant post is now complete

Freedom isn't safe, it requires you to take responsibility for your own life, your own safety, and your own success. It carries with it the possibility of failure and the understanding that you're working without out a safety net. If you give the state the responsibility for any of these you also give up the freedom that accompanies the responsibility.

I also do not think some of the ads on there for cleaning services are for actual cleaning, just saying lol.

Some people love the Holley Snipers and have no issue with them. However, a lot of people hate them because issues of them not working correctly for them.

I'll stick with my quadrajet, thank you.

From my reading, it seems trouble with EFI are usually electrical. Remember that electrical includes both sides of the system.

Re: Quite a few Sniper EFIs for sale on Book of Faces

I get it that a lot of ppl are probably having trouble with the EFI and selling them off but asking close to the retail price for a used system is what is astonishing to me.

And I think it was W.C. Fields who said "it is immoral to let a fool hang onto his money" along with a lot of his other quotes.

Yeah if you look at youtube there are a lot of people switching back to a carb from EFI. It does seem like the electronics in the EFIs were having problems with heat and electronic interference. The newest models are supposed to have better shielding for the electronics. I for one do not think all the trouble changing over to EFI is not worth easier starts in the morning.

Re: Quite a few Sniper EFIs for sale on Book of Faces

I am still torn on the idea of EFI and I like the idea but perhaps not the execution of it right now. They are self-adjusting but not self-tuning, and in the end, I will spend as much time messing with it as I would a carb. For an entire system with adaptors, connections, miscellaneous parts, and all the stuff they don't tell you that you need, it will be @ $2600 for just the system. There are online tuner pros who will remote in and custom-adjust it for you for @ $300. I guess they have most of the bugs worked out on the interference but you need to shield your system and get premium plug wires etc. I would try it if money wasn't an issue, but I will need to be a poor truck owner right now. If I could buy a used one for $600 I might try it too but I am not paying 75% of retail for a take off.

EFI will not start easier than a properly tuned carburetade engine.

Re: Quite a few Sniper EFIs for sale on Book of Faces

.

FBMP success story here...

I needed a replacement hand-held controller for my EFI system as I broke mine by dropping it on the shop floor. First time I had to replace this thing was after the exhaust shop broke it accidentally. It was 250 bucks. This time, they wanted 395 bucks for a new one.

So, found one on FBMP that was part of a "kit" containing the controller, the throttle body, the power supply module and wiring harness for 300 bucks. Once received, the controller was verified functional as was the rest of the "kit" (installed both power unit and throttle body on my engine). All this stuff was used and just stuffed in a cardboard box.

That's right, I now have a replacement throttle body and power supply for my EFI system. Those same components are priced new as follows:

controller 395
throttle body 1200
power module 450
harness ??

The entire master kit for this system sells new for 1900 (includes everything necessary to install and run).

The folks that take the time to actually learn how to properly "tune" an EFI system don't "go back"
