It's a valid point/question. The light output pattern is slightly reduced being behind the grill but because these lights have both a focused and flood output and are so bright, I still getting plenty of light output to satisfy my needs. It's true I don't much like the look of them on the bumper but more importantly, I am trying to keep that area clear for a winch with fairlead in the original bumper.
