Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
So where did we get to?
Wiring and last few parts removed. Next up a few garage jobs. Clearing more junk, sorting overalls and various hoodies for extreme weather. Washed, dried, folded etc. Put my Esse Dragon wood burning stove up for sale to gain space. Moved my 5 years unused motorcycle into a better location to maximise space. So first small job was dry cleaning the cab with broom and brush. Then compressed air blowing out. Yesterday was a good weather day. So I painted the interior of the cab with brush on enamel paint. It will all be sound proofed, padded and a new “factory” carpet sed installed once painted. I also closed up all the firewall and trim holes in the cab in order to prevent paint getting through and running down the outside. Biggest problem of course it that it is still cold and winter So when I moved the cab out onto the driveway at 07.30 this morning, the paint was still distinctly tacky and a long way from being dry. I hope it does get dry over the next few days. We have 10’C plus forecast this week. Possibly as much as 14’C today. Fingers crossed. Video for the watchers. https://youtu.be/VNgfbnM-R84?si=R-Bfq5I38g4OvAza Today I will be leaving the cab alone as much as possible. However, mate Henry is coming over to play. Not sure what we will be doing, but I think we may do some cutting, grinding, drilling and welding to create a mobile, driveway use grinder stand for the grinder I am currently restoring. Stuff will happen.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Saturday was Chevy truck time.
There id 59 year old underseal, black paint of unknown origin, blobs of filler etc. VIDEO SHOWS IT BETTER. https://youtu.be/0EWhlH9PPYA?si=kpciH2z_pYFDqJTC Mate PaulY had problems with his truck Eventually he got it sorted out. Happy days. Sunday morning I got back onto my cab and cleaned the firewall once I had figured it out the most effective method. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Sunday turned out to be a lovely day.
Sunny, warm and I spent around 5 hours on the cab. Hard to believe when you look back at the progress. But I was still trying to figure out what I needed to do to remove the various finishes to the firewall. VIDEO Mate John came around with his kids for a while too…… letting them blow off steam in the garden. These distractions are actually great because they tend to break the monotony of the jobs at hand. So in a fit of creativity, I fetched some woodwork scourers and used petrol from the lawnmower can to address the black paint. That worked, albeit slowly. Next brainfart saw me grab an empty spray bottle and fill it with fuel, so I could spray onto the work surface constantly because the fuel dribbles out of the scourer faster than I could use it. A job where you just keep gping over and over. I didn’t want to scar the metal before painting. I closed shop as having John over was a perfect excuse by 4.00pm It was a good day. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Redoing a job I did 10 years ago
Not ideal. No choice though. So I got onto the front screen frame with a wire brush on my air die grinder It is very air hungry but the compressor almost kept up with it. VIDEO LINK https://youtu.be/zpESER-snu8?si=fEgzfWBwkGU6Lh9L I also tried some new shaped pointy wire wheels….. Absolute Junk in my opinion I would not recommend them unless you know something about them that I don’t know Post advice in the video comments or down here, to show you are alive Photos of before and after .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Yes, that's right, good work, preserve it right away.
I only use these brushes for narrow cavities, shafts, where the brush is forced to remain narrow while working. I hope that's the right term for it. Greetings Harald

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
Thank you Bill and Harald
Getting it right will be the only way to go. Next little job to get done was the door frames. At some point in the past the door seals were glued in place. So when I took them out in 2015 there was rock hard residue on the door frames. Using a knife an a scraper both chipped the paint and glue all the way down to bare metal. So I decided to try using the air driven die grinder. Passenger door done that way with the die grinder and with other things, The high speed of the grinder unfortunately melts the glue and spreads it. So I changed to the cordless drill with a wire wheel on the driver side. Much better. VIDEO. https://youtu.be/ppUkJLD8R2o?si=24tMVnwGwjy381yK Ultimately, I carried on and sanded back some more of the paint on the sills and eventually shut shop I had also done a few other things that needed doing So on Saturday I had a long chat with Dennis and he suggested that I do a bare metal repaint because of the layers of paint already on the truck I really didn’t want to do this More discussion about this to follow Thanks for checking in .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I guess I’ll have to look at this as a lesson in patience.
I have a Lidl quite a few miles from home. As usual, parking would be expected to be limited. So I ordered a replacement 125mm grinder for £32.00 delivered from EBay. At 1200W for £32.00 should be a brute as the last one was. Unfortunately I didn’t get it from Aldi for £20.00 plus 10 miles and an hour in my day, hoping there was one in stock. The alternative cheapy was 710W for £23.00 online. Hopefully delivery on Saturday. I also killed a vintage Atlas Copco 115mm grinder Mickey had thrown out. Will look for another cheap grinder to add to the stable. 4 x 115mm and a powerful 125mm grinder all set up differently make life easier for me .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
I glooped together a bunch of clips from the last 5 years after finding a video of my “NOT A PROJECT” 79 Chevy Blazer from 2019.
Just some random automotive and other memories. https://youtu.be/d9KX-rkQkhE?si=ZGuhLFEM8HQ7Jj29 I will do an update on the C10 on Saturday morning. Short Video uploaded but not yet published. Have a great Friday. .

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!
There’s a saying “Never buy a car on a rainy day”
I did just that….. Of course it hid a myriad of nastiness Does it matter? Yes, but No. What matters is that I am now dealing with it. This job took me a chunk of time to do. Problem lies in ESCALATION…… So the job for the day was getting the paint surfacing flatted out. Other small jobs all add to elapsed time VIDEO. https://youtu.be/gSS9pn2GFMw?si=KncXtFXbh4sASLF6 I also got a sparkplug delivered for the mail from @Jasp up North for my little Anzani boat motor. I am really avoiding getting started on this because it’ll be a distraction Saturday and it’s raining outside…… So certainly no bodywork outside Bare metal doesn’t like rain or dampness. Time to catch up on my weekly YouTube channels that I follow, including “True Blue Travelers” .
