Cold starts

I recently installed a new vac sec 600cfm holley with an electrical choke. The carb has cleared up and confirmed quite a few issues seen with the old one (stumbling and hesitations). The only problem I seem to have now is with the cold starts. When the truck is initially turned on, it revs to 1500RPM perfectly. If I throw it into drive right away, it dies. It has been my past experiance that it is possible to throw a carbed vehical in drive RIGHT after you start it. Even if I feather the gas off the fast idle cam after 20+ seconds of idling at 1500RPM, it dies. Once it is restarted, its fine. I believe the choke takes 1+ minutes to completely come off. Now, if I waste more of my time and gas to let it warm up to op. temp, all is fine.

Any ideas?

with my 600cfm edelbrock i have to let it warm for a minute or so before the elec choke lets off too, otherwise it will almost die (but wont), just run at a VERY low rpm until i hit the gas

In the past 30 years about 90% of Fords are still on the road, the other 10% made it home.

Yeah, mines similar too. It runs at 800rpm out of gear, but until its at op temp or I gun it, it will idle at 600rpm once the choke comes off before hand.
