fuel pump question,can you do this???

i just put that big block in my 90 model and was wondering if the mechanical fuel pump will pull fuel with the pump in the tank still there but not working?

fuel pump

i dont think it will but i think summit sells a conversion piece that replaces the f/i pump or you just pull the pump i off i guess
