Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
Haha...yeah no kidding..!!!
And just last week when you started this I was thinking that I've been lucky and not been hacked in a while... And during that same time I was being hacked..!!! That was just February charges... they said march also had outstanding charges that I havnt seen yet..but they wiped those out to.. Then today I was at Lowe's and the 1st thing thru the door I was bombarded by a guy trying to sign me up for a credit card..!!! I about unloaded on him.. after his failed sale pitch he finally said I guess I'll leave you alone before you punch me in the nose..!!!! Haha

Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
^ just an example of how much money there is to be made with financial services, they can pay a guy to stand around all day on the slim chance someone walking in the door falls for instant credit. Kinda predatory is my feeling, it does not make me respect the stores in question any extra.
we are probably all of an age where we went to the bank and applied for our first credit card, had to prove we were worthy of the opportunity. |

Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
Yeah, in my younger days I applied for a GM credit card..mostly because it had Srs. Pic and the number 3 on the promotion....even though i had decent credit i got denied faster than quick..

Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
I was scammed years ago, MFers!
Had possums living in my boat so I got a live trap from our community pet shelter which is how they got my identity. They needed a check and a drivers license before I could borrow the trap from them and I obliged! My mistake!!!! They made copies of my check and drivers license but with another guys picture on it. Then they only made checks no larger than $299.00. Here in Texas it becomes a felony at the $300.00 mark, at least back then mid 90's. I had a detective tell me the only way to beat this P.O.S. was to change my identity, so I did!! Not an easy thing to do, it requires a mountain of paperwork which I had! What I learned from my experience was no more checks for me, only use credit cards ( a bank will fight for you when needed), and I don't use debit cards either! i feel for ya man, I hate thieves on any level!!!

Back a few years ago I was at the Islander Cafe in Anacortes Wa when I handed the waitress my debit card and she went off in the other room to do the bill and three hours later Bank of America sent me a text that my card was locked because of fraud. She had sent the info off the card to someone in Miami who printed their own card and tried to use it at a Citgo gas station. The bank caught it and one more try and when I called the bank the person on line looked up my purchases and it was obvious that I wasn't in Miami. I got this scam email this morning and the phone number checks out to be one that has been on the scammer report hotlines for some time. They tried it on my yahoo account but Yahoo mail is better at spotting spam or phishing emails. I never buy online from Bestbuy and seldom go in their store because I usually can't find what I am after. I forwarded the one Email to spoof@paypal.com and they have a crew that just deals with phishing scammers.

Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
I've developed a habit of checking all my accounts online each morning looking for suspect transactions.
A few years ago I found a charge for $35.00 on my debit account for a purchase in Birmingham. I called the bank and informed the person that it had been years since I had been to Birmingham AL. She laughed and said that the transaction was from a shop in Birmingham England. Needless to say that charge got reversed immediatly. Now we have a debit card for stores that we shop at all the time, a M/C for when we travel and a Visa for online purchases. It's not fool proof but helps us to avoid scams.

Re: Soooooo, I was hacked, scary stuff!!!
The number of scams seem to increase daily. Even an email with a visible pdf file is suspect now. As long as theres no real consequences this will continue. I think if just foreign based net scams could be stopped with some punitive action against the originators country or net providors it may help.
