Unilite distributor fit problem
Installed Unilite into a 350 block. I forgot that my builder didn't put the nylon coupler bushing onto the oil pump so I pulled distributor and put one in. Now it won't drop back in. Has me baffled. Any help appreciated. I finally contacted Mallory and they said it doesn't need the nylon bushing. I'm going to measure original and compare.

Re: Unilite distributor fit problem
Did you put a bushing on the distributor end of the oil pump drive? If so it's not supposed to be there.

Re: Unilite distributor fit problem
The nylon "bushing" secures the oil pump to its drive shaft, not to the distributor.

Re: Unilite distributor fit problem
The oil pump has to have the oil pump shaft attached with the bushing AND installed from the oil pan side of the engine.

Re: Unilite distributor fit problem
Yes, you are correct. I've seen people try and put one on the distributor side too. Have you checked the gear on the distributor to make sure it's is right for your cam
