What Is Wrong With My Heater?

The heater box in my truck has a giant hole. Is something supposed to go here? Did someone just cut a hole? What am I looking at?

I am guessing someone hacked a hole in it. Does anyone have one for sale that works and isn’t hacked apart? lol

What does the firewall look like in the engine compartment? Deluxe heater had the heater core and fan in the engine compartment, economy or recirculating heater had them in the cab where your box is. There is a thread on this site called “all about heaters” or something like that. That will show you the factory options and you can compare to what you have. Aspenautoaz.com may have used parts. Good luck!

If you're driving her for fun and not show, I would consider leaving it as is if the defrost lever works. As I recall, the bottom of the heater vent duct box is just a big opening without deflectors... and when it works, it works great.
