factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

I seem to recall paying a small fortune for the factory correct PN dash speaker at some point, but now that I'm going to install it, it appears the magnet is glued 90 deg out of whack. Anyone seen this before or am I just missing something? original (just removed is the top one in the pic - and note the bracket mounts over the magnet, there's no way to reattach it to the new one and maintain alignment to the factory mount that holds the speaker and radio in). I feel like I'm missing something simple..

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

and fwiw... classic industries shows the same orientation for the magnet on their 10 ohm replacement speaker (i.e. the same orientation that doesn't match the original one in my dash, that is original to the truck). 2nd pic is another used original on ebay and it DOES match the original magnet orientation... Hmm.

Is there a way to re-orient the magnet -or- the brackets so they work with the 90 deg off config? (I've been staring under my dash for a little while, and don't see a way the factory brackets that are original to the truck will work with this magnet orientation). Anyone ever run into?

Anyone know anyone that makes one with the magnet in the correct orientation?

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

Here is the replacement I purchased https://www.smelectrotech.com/produc...category_id=10 Speaker has a small neodymium magnet. Includes a plastic piece that replicates the original magnet. It attaches with double stick tape and can be oriented in either direction.

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

Thanks Richard - so do you use the original bracket shown on the top speaker in the first photo in post #1? Trying to figure out what you stick the double sided tape to(?) Or is the doublestick tape just used to attach the plastic piece in the correct orientation - and then you can use the stock bracket? Thanks for sharing the link, might go this route if I can't figure out how to use what I've got (and I haven't yet!)

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

This picture should make it more clear. Double stick is already applied around the magnet.

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

Perfect, thank you Richard. Btw, I forgot to take pics... do the clipped corners of the rectangle go toward the front of the truck or the back of the truck?

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

No worries and thanks for the info. I’m still tinkering on a way to make my existing nos speaker work, but ordered the one you shared anyway because if i don’t use it, I already know I need a speaker for the other truck. Thanks again for the help.
Anyone else know the answer to orientation question??

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

Maybe this will help.

I have a replacement now, which came from here. Works like it's supposed to, probably at least as good as the Delco. I'll add an image of the new one too.

Re: factory dash speaker comparison (magnet orientation)

thanks for the part numbers 1970cstblazer! Tony thanks for the pics - the 2nd one is the one I ordered in case I can't figure out a way to mount my speaker with the 90 deg out magnet. In fact, will proabably mount the turnswitch one and call it a day. I "think" the original bracket could be used by snipping it at the little factory "bend" marks and placing it under the magnet - it looks like about a perfect fit. But rather than destroy my bracket in the case I'm wrong, I think I'll wait for the one from turnswitch.
Thanks again to everyone for sharing your info.
Oh, and Richard, I confirmed the cropped corners go toward the front of the truck by looking at the very faint witness marks on the underside of my dash - nice dirt outline left behind!
