Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
No the new seal before it was installed, is it a 90degree angle or did it have a curve to it?
Thanks |

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
I thought about that before I opened the bag, but no I didn't take a picture. The seal was folded up like a bicycle inner tube with 4 rubber bands around it. To answer your question it was curved over. Very pliable also

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Same old lmc issue. I bought seal some time ago from lmc and now getting ready to use it and find it is a cheap repo.
Glad i saved old one. Old one is thicker rubber with holes to secure. Lmc is amazingly low tech. |

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
I know this is a dated thread, but I am looking for the cowl seal as well. I thought I had seen a member here was selling these but I haven't been successful finding that thread. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
You scared me with this old thread. I just ordered one from Brothers. Hope it's better than the old ones posted here.

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
I don't see the cowl end seals listed under the cowl seal on my truck . Maybe my '69 C 10 didn't come with any ? Thanks !

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
I ordered two from Wes a couple months back. The one I installed fit perfectly. The only differences is that the one from Wes is slightly thicker and that is only noticeable sitting next to the old original I replaced.

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Does any body know definitively whether this goes between the cowl and body or on top of cowl?
I'm leaning toward in between since the cut outs ar unneeded otherwise. Always happens when I'm pressed for time, I'm having a hell of a time. Can't find the large cowl bolts and my antenna base threads stripped, so I get to struggle with the cowl for an hour and then pull it all off when I get to my new place 7 hrs away. Will have to get a new antenna and track down cowl bolts. Anybody know what thread / length they are?

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Thanks for the link. But I saw that previously.
Anybody know thread type and bolt length for the (4) cowl bolts? I installed the cowl rubber but those bolts got misplaced years ago.

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
The four large bolts in the ends of the cowl are 5/16-18 x 7/8 and are the same style that is used in many other places on the front clip, like for the inner fenders to the fenders. They have captured washers on them.
The smaller screws that pass through the cowl seal are the same style of screw that is used for fastening the glovebox liner to the dash. They are a Phillips head with a captured washer. If I remember correctly, the four exposed screws that are up by the wipers are #10 pan head sheet metal screws that are approximately 1/2" long. |

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Sure wish I'd found this thread before I installed the LMC cowl seal.. Install was easy but it stands straight up as others have noted - nonfunctional and looks pretty dumb too. Ordered a GMC Paul's from the link above, thanks for sharing. I've about had it with LMC.

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Following up - LMC in 1st pic, GMC Paul's in 2nd pic. GMC Paul's is quite a bit better - better angle and a bit more pliable, not as rigid as the LMC seal. However, neither lies flat like the original and neither is compressed by the hood when closed, so I'm not expecting it to get much flatter with age. But I'm gonna stick with Door #2 Monty
![]() And for all I know, pic #2 is how it DID look when brand new in 72

Re: Hood to cowl seal and alignment
Maybe score the inside corner of the L shaped ones with a razor blade to get them to lay down? Heat gun? Hmm...

#$%& , just bought LMC door seal n cowl seal , think I'll lay all of it on deck of trailer and let them catch some sunshine for couple weeks , then lay some 2 x 6s n bricks on them to see if they flatten out some .
Good luck on all your projects. |
