Removing door latch mechanism

I would like to remove my door latch mechanism, but the three big phillips mounting screws are burrowed in like a tick and won't budge. Have you guys found that drilling them out is the best solution?

Re: Removing door latch mechanism

If the panel is off spray some penetrating oil on the ends of the screws from the inside.

I just got done disassembling 10 doors and I managed to get all the latch mechanisms out without drilling. Make sure you are using a 4 (at least a 3) bit, the regular #2 will strip out the heads. Sometimes tightening them a bit before loosing them helps too.

Good luck, Rg

Re: Removing door latch mechanism

I use my cordless hammer drill and a #3 Phillips after letting them soak in Kroil for a few hours.

Re: Removing door latch mechanism

That was my suggestion. Spray with Kroil or some other penetrating oil, from the back side. Roll the window down and aim....
