Can anyone explain how/when/where to use bedding compound for windshield?

Can anyone explain very carefully how/when/where to use bedding compound? I have butyl strip caulk, can that work instead? Or is this stuff different than butyl caulk? https://www.amazon.com/C-R-Laurence-...rReviewsAnchor

Re: Can anyone explain how/when/where to use bedding compound for windshield?

I only use that if the windshield is leaking . When I install a glass I used the caulk in areas known to leak like the weld seams . If I have to use the sealant afterwards I just go around under the rubber where it meets the window frame don’t use to much it’s very messy if it’s starts to ooze out . Cut the nozzle and use a paint stick to lift the rubber put the nozzle in and start sealing going slow all the way around the frame
