The VIN means nothing in this instance. Crawl under your truck and there should be a metal tag on the right side of your differential housing cover provided somebody hasn't removel it and thrown it away. Clean it off and read the gear ratio. Otherwise you can jack it up and spin the rear wheel 1 revolution and count the number of turns the yoke makes. Or you can remove the differential cover and count the ring teeth and the pinion teeth. divide pinion by ring gear = gear ratio. That should get you squared away.

From your Vin, we can tell that it is a 71 1/2 ton with a V-8...let us know what engine and tranny it has, and if there is anything listed in the glove box, and we can tell you what it is supposed to have in it. If you know your RPM's at 60 MPH, we can use that info too.

However, popping off the diff cover and count the teeth on the drive gear, and then divide that by the number of teeth on the driven gear (or vise-versa...I always get those two confused) and that'll be your gear ratio. You'll be looking for a number something like 3.07 , 3.73, 4.10...ect. (those are the offered gears in a 1/2 ton in 71)
I say it is a good idea becouse you'll be draining the gear oil, which was probably neer chainged...33 year old oil doesn't do much good.

IF it is original and the rear or just the gear set has never been removed for another gear ration...then you should have a 3.07. This should put your RPM's at 60MPH in the neighborhood of 2500 or so. The pic shows mine with the 3.07 gears, and I have 28 inch tall tires, which can sped things up or slow them down.
