71 c10 hood loud pop when opened

Guys,

My 71 hood seems to be aligned OK. But, when I open it, it makes a loud metallic pop sound and I can tell that the center of the hood back by the cowl changes shape, like there was some tension in it.

Can you guys tell me what adjustments might need to be made?

When fully closed, there is plenty of gap between hood and cowl. However, when opening, the hood and cowl touch.

When close, there is a good 1/4+ inch gap there

Worn hinges will cause this. Sits fine when closed, but when opening, the worn hinges allow the hood to move back instead of only up.
