Funky title. What's this channel of missing metal all about? The only thing I can come up with is for water drainage. Pic is of the drivers side. It's the same story on the passengers side, just looks a little different.
I have my cab ripped apart repairing all the rust. If there is no point to this "channel", should I add in a piece of metal there or just leave it like this? |

Re: Metal below windshield
It is just where the different panels all come together. It normally has seam sealer in it. I see no reason you could not weld it up with a filler piece.

Usually there is a big gob of seam sealant there.

Re: Metal below windshield
I'm pretty sure the gap is there to allow for panel differences during the assembly of the cab. The cab pieces were fit around an windshield jig and other clamps and jigs before welding. There needed to be some adjustment room. I'm sure others like Mr Seymore who can speak to this with more authority.

Re: Metal below windshield

Re: Metal below windshield
Weld it up. You can do the visible gaps at the top as well.
