88-94 steering wheel on 68 with working horn

I apologize if this has been covered before, but I cant seem to find the right answer. I really like the 88-94 chevy truck steering wheels, but I cant come up with the correct combination of parts to make the horn work.

Currently i have the 88-94 wheel, using the 68 plastic spacer/bearing race under the wheel but do not have the horn hooked up. Using the plastic spacer from the 88-94 doesnt seem to have the correct bearing race and will bind.

Has anyone successfully this? Am I overlooking somrhing simple? Thanks in advance!

Re: 88-94 steering wheel on 68 with working horn

I have a 1972 with that wheel and the horn has worked since I puzzled with it for a bit. I doubt the year makes a difference. You need the (usually green or white) round plastic spinny bit about the diameter of the steering wheel base and the part with the wire in the column.
This provides a ground to the horn relay when the button is pressed.
Start by checking for power to the horn relay. Both sides of the relay will have voltage since one side is waiting for a ground from the horn button.
I did some searching and could be wrong since I haven't looked at mine since it was fixed.

This link has a pic of the parts it says work. These are the same for many years.

Re: 88-94 steering wheel on 68 with working horn

The link in the last post is fubar. Here's another.
I'm pretty sure the springy round disk at the bottom right faces down like an upside down bowl.

Re: 88-94 steering wheel on 68 with working horn

All my wiring and parts work, im completely rebuilding snd re wiring this truck. I just needed to find the right cancel cam that works with the 68 but accepts the little twist lock wire from the 88-94. Seems like my best bet is going to be to modify the 68 cancel cam to have the little twist lock grooves. I don't think that would be too hard with a little patience.

If a 69 and up cancel cam fits, might work, found this post.

Re: 88-94 steering wheel on 68 with working horn

You don't need much, Just the slip ring/turn signal canceling cam for your particular column. I get the horn wire for the 88-94 wheel. Put in canceling cam, then add the wheel. You mahy have to trim a little nub off horn wire, but push it in. It should be a snug fit and the spring should keep the pressure to bottom of the canceling cam. Plug other end of horn wire to horn butt and you should work fine.
