Great project Chris! As you know “all are welcome here” but for your info there is a specific “1967 - 1972 Chevy/GMC Suburbans and PanelsProjects and Builds” section check it out, there you will find many burbs & panels builds of your truck’s generation. Will be checking out your build anyway but you might want to move it over there?

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

This is my "new" 1966 panel project. I am currently restoring the interior, then I will be restoring the exterior.

This is a very early St.Louis built panel, probably built the first or second week of august 1965. One of the first couple of panels built there that year, as far as I can tell.

I love panels, they are so useable and comfortable for cruising and camping in. Lots of room for luggage out of the weather.

350, 700R4, PS, PDB, sway bars, mechanically restored.

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

Here is an update on my 1966 panel. I completely stripped out the interior that came in the truck.

I removed the digital dash, the oak lath sides and roof in the cargo area, the maroon paint, the 2 inches of dirt on the floors. We also had to scrape and wire wheel tons of old 1970's carpet padding that was glued to the entire interior of the cargo area.

I went with a semi stock-ish look with lots of semi-original custom touches. The seats are just mocked up, I still have to install my seat belts. I am happy with it so far, I will work on the exterior and do a repaint next year.

That's it for my update. BH

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

It would be the same as pickup and suburban for anything jack related

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

60-66, I thank you for your response but I willl have to take exception to your answer. The panel has a unique jack mounting layout. see the picture attachment.

The picture is from the yellow assembly manual we all can buy online. The pickup snd the suburban are the same (upper left) but the panel is different.(upper right) Probably because of the cargo floor bulk head. The spring is mounted differently.

SInce you have panels I was hoping that your jack storage arrangement was still original. If it is send me a few pics if it's not too much trouble.

Well I took a lazy approach to my answer sorry . I will have to go look now and see if I can find evidence of the jack sticker on a panel.

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

So the first picture with the silver paint is my 1961 Panel . Its showing evidence of the instruction sheet being scratched off and remnants of paper in the center, white dot. Then a rusty 66 panel parts truck. With the seat belt in place I dont see any evidence of an instruction sheet or it was in between the belt and hook at one time?

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

Found the page on the jacks in the assembly manual .One problem with that manual is it a condensed version . Meaning they took bits and pieces from each year books and put in one book instead of making a complete book year specific. The jack instructions info in the book are most likely from 1960 being in the front of the book. Also Panels are a different part number than the pickup and suburban part number. They , could be, a different size and description to fit the Panels only. Out of 6 panels , I don't have a sheet but now I need to find one unless you know of one ?

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

Thanks for your information. Sorry, but I have never seen an original Jack instruction sheet from a panel. I will be going to the C10 Nationals in Nashville tomorrow. I will be on the hunt for a jack sheet for a panel truck.

If I find one I will send you a picture. BH

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

60-66, I didn't find a single panel at the C10 show. And I have never seen a panel sticker to know if they are different or not?

I might try creating one to use until I find a real one. I'll post my results if it comes out nicely. Send me any info you might come across in related to this subject. thanks, B

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

Great question and hoping someone has one.

On another note, about Panel Trucks.
I watched that YT video of the 1962 GMC Civil Defense Panel; Very Cool and all original. I did not see any photos or video of jacking instruction sticker evidence in the video.

One thing I noticed was that it was ordered with the Suburban front seat with the Jump Seat. I see the Jack was installed under the Jump seat as opposed to being under the driver seat. (photo)
Is that common to other panels ordered with that seat?

My 61 Suburban had the jack and sticker under the driver seat.

Very interesting location on that jack MusicMan70 . My 66 GMC K1000 panel came with the Suburban seat as well and is on the drivers side

Thank you 60-66 for your pic!

Maybe that's a one-off for that CD Government Panel as it gives much quicker access to the bottle jack.

Re: Panel trucks, don't see alot of them on the forum.

i installed my new 3 point retractable seat belts that I got from Seat Belt Planet. This a well made product and the installation was not that hard after some planning.

Even the reinforcement plates I added to the B pillar was easy after I figured out how to do it. If any one wants to do this to a panel I will share my method with you.
