Oil dipstick for 350
I have a made in mexico crate 350 engine in the 68 and I believe that the dipstick is too long. The dipstick is 24 inches long. I changed the oil/filter, put in 5 qts and its reading like its 2qts overfull. Can anyone tell me how long the oil dipstick should be. Pics are attached of what I have.
Thanks!

Re: Oil dipstick for 350
The dipstick tube on my 350 is 5 inches long. How long is the dipstick tube on your engine?
Thanks!

Re: Oil dipstick for 350
Mine is 5 inches long. Looks like the wrong tube is in the block. Now to find the correct one.
Thanks LockDoc!

Re: Oil dipstick for 350
You know exactly how much oil is in it, you could just mark the level on the stick you have and move on.

Re: Oil dipstick for 350
Saw this thread and thought I'd include something that's nagging at me with my truck. I have a recently rebuilt small block 400 in my truck with a 21 inch dipstick and 9 inch tube. A new Moroso 30700 oil pan was used which is supposed to be a stock relpacement for any 55-79 Chevy small block. I use Lucas Hot Rod Oil, 5 US qt jug, and a A/C Delco Oil Filter PF 1218. The truck has been sitting for a week and hada 10 mile drive right afterthe oil change before parking it and I just went and checked the oil earlier and it reads above the full mark. Is this normal ? The engine has just over 2000 miles on it now and its been reading like this when I check. Anyone know if this is a normal reading on the dipstick ? The picture of the gauge is from after driving for an hour or so.
