Question New Quick Ratio Steering Box

Looking for a new power steering box to replace my worn and leaking one on my '72 C/10. Would like to upgrade to a quick ratio version, and have been looking at the Borgeson as well as 2 from LMC (though not sure of the difference in the 2 they have).

Any opinions, pros/cons, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If I were replacing, it would be Redhead.

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

Borgeson quick ratio on my '67 works perfectly with the coil over suspension

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

I installed a Borgeson on my '68. It works well, but it required significant clearancing with a grinder on the mounting surface side of the gearbox to clear the bulges in the frame. See posts 21 & 22 in the following thread

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

I've had a Borgeson Box on my 72 for a couple years now. Bolted on with no issues and love it. I also replaced all my front end components, and I mean all, so truck steers like a modern vehicle now. Redhead boxes are good but are rebuilt by them. If u buy a box from Redhead and they have a core charge and u have to send your old one back to them after u get the new one and if good for them u get the core charge back. A Borgeson is a brand new unit so no messing around with cores.

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

Anybody happen to know what size the bolts are? Like to have spares in case I break one off.

I also added a Borgeson Box on my 72, put it on last year. Bolted on with no issues and it feels great. I had to get it after ruining my original one while trying to rebuild it ☹️

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

I will pick my truck up Monday from the shop, installed Borgeson quick ratio box, pitman arm, upper and lower tie rods, idler arm, and steering pump. Replaced all the ball joints when I did the Wilwood brakes last year. Read lots of good reviews on Borgeson boxes.

I changed all those parts on my truck too when adding the Borgeson and with 1 1/4 Front sway bar and the 2 1/2 drop spindle and and 3 inch drop spring out back and Hellwig rear sway bar the truck corners and steers like a new vehicle.

Well that's kinda the general plan for myself. Replace tie rods, pitman, idler, ball joints, and steering box.

Re: New Quick Ratio Steering Box

Quick update picked my truck up after installing a Borgeson quick ratio box, rag joint, tie rods, idler arm and pitman arm all i can say is holy smoke what a difference! Had about a 20 mile trip home unbelievable how much difference it made. Absolutely no play in the steering, I'd compare it to a new car/truck feel. Have to say worth ever penny spent.

Glad to hear it. All of that is in my truck's near future so hope I achieve the same results.
