Video - rear light bulb loose in socket

Hi guys, I’m hoping you can steer me to a simple replacement bulb socket for the rear light on my 1969 c10.

I’ve seen videos of some of these aftermarket sockets needing the housing hole to be enlarged, which I’d like to avoid.

Can anyone link me to a basic simple replacement socket?

And before I go there, can the socket be fixed at all or is it not worth it?

Here is a video, thank you!

A couple of links above for Aftermarket housings.

That's what I would try first.

Hope this helps.

You have to make sure that the pins on the bulb are oriented correctly (they are off-set) then push the bulb in and twist it to the right to lock in in.

I would maybe try tweaking the top edge of socket with a small screwdriver first to make a better ground connection on bulb. Just a thought and it costs nothing but time.

Re: Video - rear light bulb loose in socket

Assuming you have the correct bulb installed I would try to access the contacts by pushing them out from behind the assembly. The spring that pushes the contacts and the phenolic plate out can fail or the phenolic plate can get stuck from dirt and accumulated gunk. That prevents the contacts from pushing the bulb firmly in place in the socket. Photo shows a replacement contact set.
