Chipped key
Have a Freind that did a LS swap that cant get the engines to run. It will crank and fire but not run. It's like it loses power or fuel or the ecm just shuts it off. was wondering if the 2010 truck it came out of had a chipped key. if so does anyone ever heard of this being an issue? He doesn't have the chipped key anymore. Gas pressure 58 at cranking the minute it fires it pressure starts to drop. It is a drive by wire setup. Just a long shot I know but always like to ask.
Thanks |

Re: Chipped key
All trucks with LS engines had VATS, he needs to do a VATS delete on the ECU if has not been done. buying HPTuners is one way to get that done.
The symptoms you describe match what VATs does. And match what happens if you start a car with a key that turns the lock but has not been identified to the ECU |

Re: Chipped key
PROBLEM SOLVED.
OK let me say this for all 1st time LS installers. PLEASE use the ACCOUNTING TERM that says K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid. Went over his house asked him to crank it (turn the key I thought) and as I stood by the engine, I noticed he had no key. I went and looked, and he had installed some after-market pull knob type switch that he seen on one of these tv shows. It is advertised as a anti theft hidden ignition switch. Well, it does do that as no one can steal a car as it won't start for anyone including the owner. I replaced it with a factory gm ignition switch and the motor fired right up. Not sure if the switch is defected or not for LS wiring. Thinking of sending the switch back for another to see if it was a defective switch or just a P.O.S part. Let me say again if you are doing your 1st LS Swap try to keep as much oem parts on it for start-up. Once you get it running then you can upgrade part by part. this way if you upgrade something and it stops running you know what caused it. Thanks everyone. |
