Of course, it is just rubber. Do not think design is 100% seal. Maybe why more cranking when not driven for longer periods. Another thing is not sure if other carbs integrate a check valve into the design. Think they would, but I cannot confirm or deny what other carbs do.

Can remember getting filters from local parts place without them.
